Step and Connect Yarra Ranges
Resources and opportunities to encourage local women to participate in free, fun and welcoming walking groups within their local areas.
Step and Connect Yarra Ranges provides opportunities for women to move more in activities that are fun, inclusive, safe, and social.
Walking is the most popular activity for women in the Yarra Ranges, and while walking groups exist, those with a focus supporting women are minimal. Along with a gap in accessible, free, and convenient active recreation opportunities, barriers such as personal safety, lack of time, distance from activities, and caring responsibilities can impact participation.
Women’s Social Walking groups have been established at 6 Community Houses in the Yarra Ranges including:
- Mooroolbark Community House
– Tuesday 9:30am - Mt Evelyn Community House
– Tuesday 10:00am - Seville Community House
– Tuesday 10:00am - Olinda Community House
– Wednesday 10:30am. - Selby Community House
– Wednesday 10:00am - Lilydale Community House
– Thursday 9:30am - Lilydale after hours
– Thursday 5:30pm
In 2026 Step and Connect is expanding into the Inner East to support more community members to access inclusive and welcoming walking groups.
- Balwyn Community Centre
– Wednesday 9:00am. Men and women welcome to join.
Step and Connect Yarra Ranges is generously funded by a Yarra Ranges Council Community Grant. Project partners include Inspiro Health, Lilydale Community House, Mt Evelyn Community House, Mooroolbark Community House, Selby Community House, Olinda Community House, Seville Community House and Eastern Health.
