Morning Move for Mind
Morning Move for Mind is a school-based wellbeing program designed for grade 3 and 4 students to support student mental health through regular, structured movement during the school day.
Morning Move for Mind recognises the strong connection between physical activity, emotional regulation, concentration and overall wellbeing. Grounded in evidence-based practice, the program uses inclusive, low-pressure activities that are accessible to all students, regardless of ability or fitness level. Morning Move for Mind also aligns with Respectful Relationships education and wellbeing priorities by providing staff with practical strategies to embed movement into daily routines in a sustainable and meaningful way. The program consists of a series of 32 lessons. Each lesson runs for 25–30 minutes and includes:
- A short theory component to introduce and discuss the topic with the class
- A 15-20-minute active movement session
- A debrief with students to reflect on and discuss their learning
Schools can choose to deliver all 32 lessons or select the sessions that best meet the needs of their students.
In 2023, Morning Move for Mind was a finalist in the VicHealth Awards in the category of Outstanding Health Promotion Programs.
