Mental Health and Wellbeing Local is a service that helps Victorians get mental health and wellbeing support when they need it, where they need it.
The new Local services will offer free mental health and wellbeing support to people aged 26 years and over living in Victoria. The services will provide an easy entry point to the mental health and wellbeing system and will be based on the service philosophy of ‘How can we help?’.
As they are established and become fully operational, the Mental Health and Wellbeing Local Services will progressively replace Victorian Head to Health Services.
Why is it changing?
The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System recommended that Victoria establish 50-60 new Local Adult and Older Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing Services, now known as Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals.

What if I am currently using Head to Health services?
Current Head to Health clients will be transitioned to the new service following consultation, and all new referrals will be directed to the new service from March 2024.
Head to Health clients can learn about their options and review their care pathways, with information delivered in a manner that best supports their circumstances.
Outer East Head to Health providers will then work through transition plans to support continuity of care for those who choose to transition to the Yarra Ranges Mental Health and Wellbeing Local.
For those who choose not to transition their care to the Yarra Ranges Mental Health and Wellbeing Local or are below the age of 26, Head to Health providers will continue care where appropriate or transition consumers to other available and suitable supports.
