Megan from our Health Promotion team invites you and your children along to a screening of Embrace Kids to start a conversation around body positivity.
Inspiro’s Health Promotion team is proudly supporting the screening of the Embrace Kids film, in collaboration with the Yarra Ranges Body Image Group, Yarra Ranges Council, Body of Wellbeing and ChildSafe Australia.
Following the success of the original Embrace film, Embrace Kids is a documentary aimed at kids aged 8 -14 years that explores the relationship teens have with their bodies.
The film covers themes such as body shame and shaming, weight stigma, bullying and gender identity and also explores the role of social media and the influence of advertising on body image.
Why is it so important to teach kids about positive body image?
The relationship we have with our body develops in early childhood. Sadly, many of us don’t feel great about our bodies. We are consistently exposed to images, messaging and language regarding body image, size and shape that lacks diversity, leaving us with an unrealistic expectation and narrow view of what is considered healthy. We learn to focus on body aesthetics rather than loving and appreciating our body for its functionality.
Positive body image is being able to accept, respect and enjoy our body for all that it does, regardless of its weight, size or shape. Our body is incredible. Let’s embrace it!
